Sure a sibling can change your life...
Welcoming a new sibling should be an exciting time, right? It can be.
But...
It can be tricky.
Taaliya is not sure what to feel, especially when her baby brother steals all the attention and creates mess after mess the more he grows.
We all have hair-pulling moments with our siblings and this book brings us along on a rollercoaster ride especially when baby brother has talent...
...for trouble!
Your children will love this rhyming adventure about the ups and downs of sibling relationships. An entertaining narrative, complete with a search and rescue mission, that addresses important topics of empathy and emotional growth.
First, a word from Taaliya, our main character...
The book starts showing the innocent but disruptive antics of the younger brother, much to Taaliya’s frustration. On a family outing (to cheer her up), Taaliya loses her younger brother. How does she feel? What should she do? Will she be able to find him? See if your children can find him in the crowd.
Children are naturally drawn to characters that they can connect and empathise with. Living with a sibling has its fair share of highs and lows. Young readers will be able to understand the feelings of the main character and learn to better manage conflicts with their sibling.
There is a good balance of introducing unfamiliar words without affecting comprehension. These words are embedded in context, where the visual image, will help children to understand the meaning and expand their vocabulary.
The use of bright colours and rich pictures capture the attention and interest of young readers. Parents and children can point out and talk to each other about what they see beyond the text.
"I was impressed at how the scenarios and emotions were so accurately represented, not just by words but through the illustrations of Taaliya and her emotions. As a mother, I can’t help but feel that little tingle in my nose when I read everything from my older daughter’s perspective. That must have been exactly what she felt when her baby sister came into her life."

"Beautifully illustrated, “The Big Sis Crisis” kept my 5-year-old locked in from cover to cover! The book explores a very relatable topic and she saw herself in the main character. An excellent tool to encourage a child to open up about becoming an older sibling. We love it!"
